Helen bayside sweet moments11/6/2023 ![]() ![]() There are four floors of exhibits, a cafe (see my other review), a gift shop, and various education rooms. The museum and its contents were well worth seeing. Right now it's being renovated as of Aug 7, 2023. One thing I always love checking out is the movie □ you see on the 4th floor. It is a must-visit for anyone interested in learning more about the history and culture of Native Americans. Overall, I thought the National Museum of the American Indian was a great experience. There are also a number of special events and programs that are offered throughout the year, so be sure to check the museum's website for upcoming events. I would recommend spending at least 1-2 hours at the museum, depending on how much time you want to spend in each exhibit. However, the museum also celebrates the resilience and strength of Native American cultures. The exhibits are not afraid to address difficult topics, such as the history of colonialism and forced assimilation. One of the things I appreciated most about the museum is its focus on telling the stories of Native Americans from their own perspective. The museum has a vast collection of artifacts, from ancient pottery to contemporary art, and its exhibits are well-curated and informative. The National Museum of the American Indian is a great place to learn about the rich and diverse cultures of the indigenous peoples of the Americas. If you walk up Washington Street far enough the Appalachian trail office is up there and a very very good vegan restaurant, Kelsey Farm Kitchen. You can hike a bit of the Appalachian trail. They are old buildings and they had the AC on so they can’t be leaving all the doors propped all the time when it’s not very busy with people going in and out constantly. Some people thought they were closed but you just have to open the doors and go in. Most of the places in town were open including the informational exhibits. I think I got about 10 miles total in waking this day but was there from about 11a to 5p. I walked over to Murphy’s Farm then from the visitors center down the lower town trail, all around town and back to the visitors center. There was not a huge crowd and parking was plentiful. On this occasion I stopped on a Monday on early May. Its $20 to park at the visitors center but the shuttle to town is free if you prefer to ride down. You really can spend the entire day here just exploring.
